The Reach Project
Because prevention only works if it actually reaches people.
The Reach Project is United Against Use's initiative to put life-saving tools and information directly into people's hands — not behind a pamphlet table, not in a one-time assembly, but in a form that stays with someone until the moment it's actually needed. It's built on a simple idea: prevention only works if it reaches people before a crisis does. Right now, the Reach Project covers two things: Narcan distribution and educational bookmarks.
Putting Narcan Within Reach
Since founding United Against Use, we've trained over 500 students and teachers in Narcan administration and distributed more than 200 doses across schools, universities, fraternities, and YMCAs throughout the Dallas area. This work grew directly out of our time interning at CARE Dallas, where we saw firsthand how big the gap was between the availability of overdose-reversal medication and the people who actually needed access to it — especially teenagers and young adults.
Every training we run is peer-led. Instead of a clinical lecture, students learn to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to administer Narcan from someone their own age, which we've consistently found makes people far more likely to actually remember it and act when it counts.
Prevention That Stays Within Reach
Most prevention material gets read once and thrown away. So instead of another flier, we designed educational bookmarks covering teen substance use, warning signs, and what to do in an emergency — something that actually stays in a backpack, a book, or on a nightstand, so the information is there when it's actually needed, not just on the day someone happened to attend an event.
These bookmarks have been distributed at community events, PTA meetings, and school functions across the Dallas area, and have become one of our most requested materials from parents and educators. To date, we've put 300+ bookmarks into circulation.
